Affiliate Marketing

If you have surfed the Internet searching for ways of making money you would have come across affiliate marketing.  So exactly what is affiliate marketing?  Why does everybody want to be an affiliate marketer?  How exactly does it make you money?

Wikipedia defines affiliate marketing as:

“Affiliate marketing is a method of promoting web businesses in which an affiliate is rewarded for every visitor, subscriber, customer, and/or sale provided through his/her efforts”

So in plain English affiliate marketing simply means commission based sales so that means every time you refer somebody to a website and they purchase something you get paid.  Great!  So all we have to do is get people to go to web sites and buy stuff.  Well let’s get going if it’s that simple.

There are a number of different payment models for affiliate marketing.

Pay per sale – you get paid a commission for every sale that you make.

Pay per lead – you get paid the commission for every action that is taken.  For example of somebody fills in a questionnaire, somebody registers for something all they download something.

Pay per click – you get paid a commission based on a number of clicks.  Commission is only based on a fixed price per thousand clicks.

So now we know what affiliate marketing and we understand the basic models. So how do we get started?  First we need to find something to sell all to market.  The starting point for most affiliates is within organization called ClickBank.  ClickBank brings together publishes of information products which are electronically and downloadable and affiliate. Commission’s are normally 50% of the purchase price.  So commissions of $20.00 are quite typical.

Many of the other affiliates programs involve sending physical products. Organizations offering affiliate programs are quite often very well household names. So you can be selling hotel rooms for Marriott’s and garden equipment for Home Depot.  All you could even be selling credit cards, or convincing people to apply for credit cards.

It really does not matter which products or services you would like to sell the process is the same. You have to identify the target market, research that market, make sure that the market is buying, advertise to the market and get them to buy or do what you want potential customers to do so you can get paid loads of cash. It is this process that many would be affiliates markets is find difficult to implement.

So if you want to become a successful affiliate marketer, you need to become a student of the process. And that means that you need to get educated. And the best way to do that is to buy courses and do them ;-), attend seminars and participate in forums related to affiliate marketing.

Of course just being a student of the process doesn’t make you any money so what you need to do is get out and practice. Believe you me, practice makes perfect and is the only way you are going to make money as an affiliate.
